Thank goodness for RAID 1

So, I woke up this morning and wandered down to my office. Woke-up my computer (it's rarely turned off) and noticed a nice Windows taskbar notification bubble sitting there saying that half of the RAID 1 pair for my system drive was dead.

I guess I know what I'll be doing tonight. Thankfully, the Intel monitoring software lets me see the serial numbers for the drives so I know which one I will have to pull. I hope the drive is still under warranty. I think it should be. The drive was purchased only about a year and a half ago. And, thanks to the RAID 1 set up, I can continue to use my computer while I send the dead drive away.

Here's hoping the other drive doesn't go belly-up. I guess I better get an image of the drive while I can, too.

New drives all have crappy warranties (at least on consumer stuff) ... used to be like five years and I think it's one year now. or maybe three.

Yeah, I don't know what the actual warranty length is on these WD Raptors. I think I might have some of the boxes. I wonder if it says on the box. Otherwise, I probably tossed all the instructions and warranty info.

I just punched the SN into WD's website where you can check.
